Researchers at Tufts Medical Center and University of Berne shows recently in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, the results of a study that cholesterol-lowering statin drugs are published, can have serious and long-term damage to muscles, which persists even after drug is stopped.
It has undergone a period of weakness and pain in muscles – known as myalgia can – in 10% and 15% human statins, and that more severe and persistent pain as a known known as myopathy occurs in approximately 2 percent.
This writer can vouch for that, just two days after all the prescribed statin, I know I had the worst muscle weakness and must stop to rest. I instead turned to treatment with diet and where that fits in the following months as a fiddle as a result. I remember thinking then that if these drugs do this in two days, what do they do for me, after two years of them?
The above-mentioned study, researchers from muscle biopsies in a total of 83 patients. From this was 83 or 44 had recently been the statins and also suffering from myopathy so severe that they interfere with their daily activities. Without 44, 29, is currently statins, while the remaining 15 they were before, but after completion of them at least three weeks.
Another 19 from a total of 83 people who participated in the study were statin, but not affected, myopathy, during the last 20 years I have never experienced myopathy and never taken statins.
Researchers found evidence of muscle damage in 25 patients with myopathy, including a majority of those who had already stopped taking statins.
Scientists do not know why the use of statins can cause myopathy in some patients, even though they know that certain factors increase the risk. Such factors include high doses of statins, age, vigorous motion or taking certain other medicines together with statins, and these include some cancer drugs and antibiotics.
Anyway, this combination of statins with muscle weakness and not a cause for concern, because the heart is a muscle too!
Cholesterol is produced in the liver makes cholesterol and statins work by blocking chemical means in the liver, it is lower. But in the same way also makes the so-called co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Q10 is the key to the process of creating energy in all the major muscles – including the heart. The heart is obviously a big part of coenzyme Q10 and there is a correlation between the degree of heart failure in people who have the lowest levels of Q10.
This decrease in CoQ10 levels, then the cause may be weak. Other features Q10 (which is to stabilize the cell membrane) for other adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are reported as damaged as gastrointestinal, liver problems, cataracts, memory loss and peripheral nerves of statins.
So if you are on statins, a way you can help to supplement CoQ10 – speak with a qualified nutritionist. Most doctors will not appear as useful as some of them know much about nutrition – strange as it may sound!
But do you know how the introduction of statins, compared with a dietary strategy to lower cholesterol levels.
A study in 2002 published the results in comparison with patients treated with statins in patients on a so-called “Mediterranean diet has been established.” After four years on the Mediterranean diet showed a 70 percent reduced incidence of heart disease is achieved, which was three times greater than the decline in the statin group.
In 2005 another study, 74 000 people, according to a points involved, how much fish they ate cereal, etc.. The study showed that for every 2 points that she came to die, the perfect Mediterranean diet, where their chances of establishment, within a period of study, approximately 8% and reducing the man on the complete diet dying their chances in the current period with an impressive 40%.
If your heart is healthy, which is one of the best things you can do, a Mediterranean diet switch | (fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fish, beans, seeds, nuts, olive oil and dairy products like yogurt modest sums.)
Otherwise, I recommend you to supplement wild blue-green algae, and drink plenty of water and about four or five cups of green tea a day instead of coffee.
There is a lot you can do without taking drugs and suffering their side effects, but if there is a serious cholesterol / heart problems or do you have, make sure you keep a program for the problem under the direction right, a very competent doctor or nutritionist who understands the business.
